Nguyen Thien Nhan will stay on as president of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) for the next five years.
This decision was reached during the Eighth Viet Nam Fatherland Front Congress that wrapped up here on Saturday. The meeting also called on the Vietnamese at home and abroad to join its endeavors and adopted the Congress' Political Report and the revised VFF Charter.
During the next term, the VFFCC will have 383 members. Vu Trong Kim, member of the Party Central Committee, will also remain on his eighth term as the VFFCC's General Secretary.
In his closing speech, Nhan expressed hopes that the newly-adopted resolution would be widely spread and put into practice in real life, along with the Front's five action plans for the period 2014 - 2019.
The future duties of the Front, an umbrella of socio-economic organisations all over the country, include making the national unity bloc stronger through patriotic campaigns; pushing for democracy and the legitimate rights of citizens; supervising and scrutinizing social policies; taking part in building a strong Party and local administration; improving people-to-people diplomacy and enhancing international cooperation; and perfecting the mechanisms and performance of VFF units.
Nhan vowed to successfully realise the resolutions and renew the operations of the VFF.
