Nguyen Dinh Nhu Van, born in 1991 in Lam Dong, impressed judges with her striking 1.74m height and sculpted figure (90-63-91 cm). The 33-year-old professional model, who has walked for top Vietnamese designers, previously won runner-up at the 2023 Supermodel Vietnam contest and served as a mentor on The Next Gentleman Vietnam 2024.
During the grand finale, Nhu Van confidently introduced herself with a powerful “Vietnam” chant, drawing cheers from the audience. Thanks to her years of experience on the runway, she delivered flawless catwalks and striking poses, earning her a spot in the Top 20 and later the Top 12 after the swimsuit round.
For the evening gown segment, Nhu Van wore a golden crystal dress by Vietnamese designer Do Long, inspired by Vietnam’s golden rice fields. She advanced to the Top 5 and then the Top 3, ultimately competing against contestants from Jamaica and Puerto Rico in the final round.
During her final answer, Nhu Van spoke passionately about self-empowerment, stepping outside one’s comfort zone, and representing Vietnam’s diverse culture and warm hospitality. Her strong performance secured her the Miss Global 2025 crown, with Jamaica finishing as first runner-up and Puerto Rico taking third place.
Miss Global 2025 controversy: Disputed map sparks outrage
Despite the celebration, Miss Global 2025 quickly found itself at the center of controversy after displaying a world map featuring the “nine-dash line”, a territorial claim that violates Vietnam’s sovereignty.
Many Vietnamese viewers and international audiences condemned the competition for including the disputed map, with some calling for a boycott and demanding a formal explanation.
Miss Global 2025 organizers issue apology
Facing mounting pressure, the Miss Global Organization issued a public apology via its official fan page.
"We deeply respect Vietnam and its people. We sincerely regret any misunderstanding or offense caused. We acknowledge the importance of being more careful when selecting images, especially those with historical and geopolitical significance," a spokesperson stated.
Organizers also promised to implement stricter content review policies in the future to prevent similar incidents.
While Nhu Van’s victory remains a historic achievement for Vietnam, the controversy has cast a shadow over the event. As Miss Global 2025, she is expected to embark on a year of international advocacy, representing Vietnam and promoting cultural exchange.
