The Office of the Hanoi People's Committee recently issued a statement summarizing the conclusions of Vice Chairman Duong Duc Tuan regarding the construction of a rail link between Gia Binh Airport and the capital.
Both Hanoi and Bac Ninh authorities have agreed on the first proposal from the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture.
The total length of the Bac Ninh - Hanoi railway is 49.52 km, of which 28.58 km runs through Hanoi, including 8.06 km of newly constructed track and 20.54 km overlapping with the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen Expressway, Ring Road 3, and Tu Lien Bridge Road.
The two localities have agreed that the entire route from Gia Binh Airport to downtown Hanoi will have a corridor width of 100-120 meters, with a preferred width of 120 meters to align with Bac Ninh's planned adjustment. Additionally, urban development along both sides of the corridor will be studied within a range of 300-400 meters.
The railway project aligns with the Hanoi Capital General Construction Master Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050, as well as adjustments to the Hanoi Capital General Plan to 2045, with a vision to 2065.
The project will also integrate with major transportation networks such as Ring Road 3, National Highway 5, and key roads connecting Giang Bien Bridge, Vinh Tuy Bridge, and Ring Road 2.
Gia Binh Airport is an international airport project under construction in Gia Binh District, Bac Ninh Province. The project was initiated by the Ministry of Public Security in early December 2024, with an initial area of approximately 125 hectares, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. This airport is designed to serve both military and civilian purposes, meeting the 4E standard set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Recently, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh approved an adjustment to the national airport master plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, which formally includes Gia Binh International Airport in the nationwide aviation development strategy.
