National Assembly Standing Committee deputies on October 14 discussed preparations for the legislature’s upcoming sixth session, which will run in the capital from October 21 to November 30.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stressed the importance of the year-end session during which lawmakers are expected to adopt the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution and the revised Land Law, and comment on the 2011-2015 socio-economic development plan, among other issues. He required NA Committees, Councils and relevant agencies to work closely together so that the planned agenda will run smoothly.

The NA Standing Committee agreed to a proposal by the Ministry of Information and Communication on organising a display of maps and documents featuring historical evidence of Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos at the venue where the NA session will take place.

Notably, on November 12, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will ask the National Assembly to approve the dismissal of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and Head of the Government Office Vu Duc Dam. On November 13, the Prime Minister will ask the National Assembly to ratify the appointment of the new Deputy Prime Minister and on November 14, the NA will vote on this.

Thus, the new Deputy Prime Minister will present himself before the public on November 14. There are four Deputy Prime Ministers at present, including Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Mr. Hoang Trung Hai, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan and Mr. Vu Van Ninh.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has been appointed as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, replacing Mr. Huynh Dam.

The 6th session of the 13th National Assembly is expected to open on October 21and will last until the end of November.

At the 5th session, the National Assembly also approved the dismissal of Finance Minister Vuong Dinh Hue and State Auditor General Dinh Tien Dung. Currently, Hue is the Head of the Central Economic Committee and Dung is the Minister of Finance.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, born in 1953, is currently a member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister and the 13th National Assembly deputy. Last May, he was elected to the Politburo.

Mr. Vu Duc Dam, born in 1963, is the youngest minister of Vietnam. He is currently a member of the Party Central Committee. Previously he was the deputy head of the Science-Technology and International Cooperation Department of the Post Office Administration, Head of the ASEAN Department of the Government Office, Secretary of Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, Deputy Chairman of Bac Ninh Province, Party Secretary of Quang Ninh Province.
