The long-awaited road project connecting Tan Son Nhat Airport is now in its final stages. With land clearance hurdles resolved, construction is being accelerated to open the new route ahead of the April 30 holiday.
The Tran Quoc Hoan – Cong Hoa connector road project, which began construction in late 2022, has a total investment of over 4,800 billion VND (approximately 190 million USD).
The main road stretches over 4 km, with a width ranging from 25 to 48 meters and six lanes. It also includes two additional branches, 18E and C2, with widths of three to four lanes each.
Beyond the four-lane overpass in front of Tan Son Nhat Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3), the project features two underpasses at major intersections: Tran Quoc Hoan – Phan Thuc Duyen and Truong Chinh – Tan Ky Tan Quy. Originally scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, the project faced delays due to difficulties in land clearance.
As of now, a 1.25-km section of the project - from the Phan Thuc Duyen underpass to Hoang Hoa Tham Street - has been temporarily opened for use. However, the remaining section from Hoang Hoa Tham to Truong Chinh Street is still under construction due to previous land clearance issues.
Speaking with VietNamNet, Le Huu Tuan, deputy head of the Tan Binh District Land Compensation and Clearance Board, confirmed that all land clearance issues had been resolved.
"As of today, the last remaining house in an alley on Tran Van Du Street has been completely dismantled and handed over to the project’s investors," Tuan stated.
Meanwhile, Luong Minh Phuc, director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Transportation Works Management Board, which oversees the project, confirmed that after receiving the cleared land from Binh Tan District, contractors would accelerate construction to ensure the entire road is operational before April 30.
On-site, construction crews are working intensively to meet the deadline. In package 13 of the project, work has already reached 80% completion, with several sections undergoing roadbed compaction in preparation for asphalt paving.Following land clearance, affected residents have begun renovating their homes. The project impacts 85 properties in Tan Binh District, including 68 households and 17 businesses and organizations. In total, more than 133,234 square meters of land has been reclaimed for the development.Once completed, the road will provide a direct link to Tan Son Nhat Airport’s Terminal 3, which is scheduled to begin operations on April 30, 2025. The new route is expected to significantly reduce congestion at the airport’s main entrance on Truong Son Street. While prioritizing the completion of the Tran Quoc Hoan – Cong Hoa connector road, project developers are also urging the Tan Binh District People’s Committee to expedite the renovation of the A41 canal. This drainage project is crucial for integrating the airport road’s water management system and ensuring proper flood prevention for the Tan Son Nhat Airport area and Terminal 3.
