Under the PM’s Decision 1640/QD-TTg, the number of mandatory rehabilitation centres will drop to 71, while the number of drug addicts being treated at such centres will also drop to 20,000.
Another 52 mandatory rehab centres will be converted into voluntary ones.
At least 30 private detoxification centres will be established, aiming to increase both the number of rehab centres and their capacity to receive and treat patients.
The increase is expected to meet the demand for detoxification of 80 per cent of managed drug addicts, amounting to some 200,000 people.
According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, 90 per cent of State-run and private drug rehabilitation centres was meeting legal standards and conditions on infrastructure, medical equipment and qualified medical personnel.
Some 140 district-level mandatory rehab centres have so far been converted into community and voluntary rehab centres.
All State officials and medical staff working at rehab centres will be trained and granted drug-detoxification professional certificates for following the Ministry of Health’s standards.
The PM’s decision also maps out a long-term plan, where the number of mandatory drug rehab centres in 2030 will drop by 50 per cent against 2020.
As a set target, all State-owned and community or private rehab centres will achieve the national criteria on drug detoxification facilities and qualified medical workers by 2030.
