VietNamNet Bridge - The decision to cancel the vote of confidence to the positions elected or approved by the National Assembly (NA) or the People’s Council in May 2014 derived from the Politburo’s opinion in a statement issued in late 2013. The organization of the vote of confidence at the following sessions will be decided by the NA.

The Politburo suggested the pause of the vote of confidence in the first session of the NA to study and amend the NA’s Resolution 35--on the vote of confidence to make the vote be more suitable to the actual situation.

The amendment was assigned to the NA Committee for Deputies’ Affairs and it must be completed before the session of the NA Standing Committee in March for verification.

"The 7th Session of the National Assembly in May 2014 will halt the vote of confidence. The next vote will be held after the National Assembly approves the revised Resolution 35," said NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Chairman of the NA’s Law Committee – Mr. Phan Trung Ly said that the first vote of confidence was appreciated by the people. However, as the first time it was held in Vietnam, the vote of confidence should be carefully reviewed to learn from experience for being perfected.

Chair of the NA’s Committee on Social Affairs – Ms. Truong Thi Mai said that the vote of confidence should be canceled in one term only.

Chair of the NA Committee for Ethnic Council – Mr. Ksor Phuoc said that the weakness of the vote of confidence is "it assesses a part of the government officials, not the whole."

Phuoc said in the vote of confidence in 2013, most of officials of the National Assembly and the People’s Councils obtained high confidence but those in the law enforcement sector had low confidence, even below 50 percent.

Phuoc proposed to hold the vote of confidence for officials of the law enforcement agencies, who have frequent contact with people, to assess the level of satisfaction of citizens with the government.
