Ly Hoang Nam won his second match at the Yucatan Cup tennis tournament in Mexico yesterday.

The teenager dominated both two set to beat Japan's Riki Oshima 6-3, 6-2 in the men's singles.

In the next round, he will play Francisco Bahamonde from Argentina, who beat Javier Restrepo of the US 6-2, 6-1.

In the men's doubles, Nam, who is paired with Julian Zlobinsky from the US, overcame No 5 seeds Maxilimiano Colorado Zavala of the US and Agustin Moreno of Mexico 6-3, 6-3.

Cyclists train in Da Lat for SEA Games prizes

Vietnamese cyclists have been in intensive training in Da Lat for nearly two weeks in preparation for the coming Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.

"Da Lat is a suitable destination for training as its terrain is similar with the SEA Games routes and the cool weather will help my athletes improve their volume of red blood cells, which are good for them when competing with high intensity," said coach Huy Hung.

The team of 11 athletes will compete in six categories and is targeting at least one gold medal.

At the last Games in Indonesia in 2011, Viet Nam pocketed one gold in the women's cross country event, courtesy Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh.

They will fly to HCM City on December 7 and travel to Myanmar the next day.

An Giang beat U23 in friendly

Viet Nam's Under-23 team lost 0-1 to V-League newcomer Hung Vuong An Giang in their second friendly match yesterday (Nov 27) in Binh Duong Province.

Felix Ajara headed the only goal of the match from a corner kick in the last minute of the first half.

Earlier, the Nigerian and Thanh Binh had created a number of threatening chances, keeping goalie Nguyen Manh alert, but they were not able to score.

The national team made up several changes in the second half and dominated the game, but the substitutes had no success in breaching An Giang's strong defence.

"An Giang defended very well while my players were not accurate in their shots. They lost their focus in the last minutes of the first half and conceded the goal, said U23 coach Hoang Van Phuc.

"My strikers (Mac Hong Quan and Ha Minh Tuan) have not found their best form, but please be patient. I believe that they will shine at the SEA Games," he added.

The team will play their last friendly match against First Division team HCM City club on Saturday.

Viet Nam's representaitves at the Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold Series all crashed out in the first round yesterday.

Le Thu Huyen lost 21-9, 21-13 to South Korea's Kim Hyo-min in the women's singles in only 27 minutes.

In the women's doubles event, Huyen and teammate Pham Nhu Thao were trounced 21-8, 21-6 by Savitree Amitrapai and Narissapat Lam of Thailand.

Quan, Khanh make a double at Toyota champ

Tennis player Do Minh Quan will pair up with Le Quoc Khanh to compete for the men's doubles title at the Toyota Asian Championships in Thailand today.

The Vietnamese duo will face off with the tournament's number 2 seeds, rivals from Chinese Taipei, Chen Ti and Chuang Ting-yu, in the first round.

Yesterday, Quan, the national runner-up booked a spot in the main draw for the men's singles event after blazing through three qualifying matches. However, the tennis pro failed to advance to the next round after a 7-6, 6-7, 3-6 defeat by Thailand's Kaewsuto Chayamon.

Earlier, female compatriot Huynh Phuong Dai Trang lost 1-6, 3-6 to Suetrong Thanthita of Thailand in the women's singles draw.

Trang, who will join doubles partner Sabina Sharipova from Uzbekistan, will meet Thai duo Jundakate Chompoothip and Momkoonthod Tamachan in the women's doubles today.
