Participants are able to join either the 1.7km or 5.2km run which will be held from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on October 21 around Ho Guom (Sword Lake).
Entrants must register before October 15 through website http://www.yeuthuonghanhphuc.vn/mottainai.
Through the race the organisers will raise money for the Mottainai fund to assist 280 disadvantaged children, especially orphans and the victims of traffic accidents.
The 10th Mottainai programme co-organised by the Vietnam Women's Union and the Japanese Embassy in Hanoi from October 21 to October 22 will consist of Mottainai Run around Ho Guom (Sword Lake) and Mottainai Fair at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square.
The event has been organised since 2013 and is based on the sale and exchange of used goods in order to raise funds for charity.
Mottainai, which is a Japanese term conveying a sense of regret over waste, seeks to not only raise public awareness about recycling and traffic safety, but also calls for greater support from the community for disadvantaged children, especially orphans and those suffering from traffic accidents.
This year’s event is also one part of activities being held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.
