On April 8, a representative from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security confirmed that the Vietnam Auction Partnership Company had conducted its sixth license plate auction, marking the first time motorcycle plates were included. Of the 1.55 million motorcycle and scooter plates available, 49,751 were auctioned on the first day.

Among the standout plates, 29AC-666.68, auctioned early in the session, saw bidding soar to VND 45 million (approx. USD 1,780) within two minutes and eventually closed at VND 116 million (approx. USD 4,580).

The top-selling motorcycle plate of the day, 69AM-199.99, from Ca Mau province, started at VND 107 million and quickly escalated in value, finally selling for VND 158 million after more than 15 minutes of intense bidding.

Another high-priced motorcycle plate, 50AA-788.88, was sold for VND 122 million (approx. USD 4,820).

In the same session, car license plates continued to attract record bids. A standout was the “quintuple five” plate 15K-555.55, which sold for VND 2.145 billion (approx. USD 84,700). Other high-value plates included 63A-388.88 at VND 615 million, 37K-667.89 at VND 605 million, and 93A-567.89 at VND 1.8 billion.

Interestingly, a yellow license plate for transport vehicles, 43H-111.11, sold for VND 160 million, showcasing continued demand across vehicle categories.

On March 5, the Ministry of Public Security approved plans for the sixth round of auctions, offering over 2.18 million plates across 63 provinces and cities. This round marked the largest inventory ever released and the debut of motorcycle plates in the auction program.

Starting bids were set at VND 40 million for car plates and VND 5 million for motorcycle plates. Plates with special formats such as AAAAA (where A > 4) or ABCDE (ascending order, A > 4), when re-auctioned for the second time, had minimum bids of VND 500 million (car) and VND 50 million (motorcycle).

The auction format was entirely online, with ascending bids. The Ministry selected Vietnam Auction Partnership Company to organize and conduct the auctions.

Since its launch, the auction platform has hosted 272 days of auctions, offering more than 2 million license plates. To date, 51,218 plates have been successfully auctioned, generating a total revenue of nearly VND 5 trillion (approx. USD 197 million). Winning bidders have paid approximately VND 4.5 trillion into state coffers.

Among the record-setting car plates are 51K-888.88 (sold for VND 15.265 billion, or about USD 603,000), 30K-555.55 (VND 14.495 billion), and 11A-111.11 (VND 8.78 billion).
