Authorities in Dong Nai Province have arrested five more officials, including two senior leaders of the Long Thanh District Land Development Center, for their involvement in irregularities related to compensation and resettlement payments for the Long Thanh International Airport project.

On February 22, the Dong Nai Provincial Police launched criminal proceedings against Le Quang Hung (Director) and Nguyen Long Chau (Deputy Director) of the Long Thanh District Land Development Center for abuse of power while performing official duties.

Additionally, three compensation team leaders - Nguyen Thai Binh, Ly Thanh Binh, and Tran Nhat Linh - were also arrested on charges of bribery and violating land compensation regulations.

Further arrests were made, including:

Duong Ngoc Duc, Chairman of the Binh Son Commune People’s Committee

Hoang Huu Minh, Vice Chairman of the Binh Son Commune People’s Committee

Lam Hoang Thanh Hai, Chairman of the Binh Son Commune Fatherland Front Committee

These officials are under investigation for mismanagement of compensation funds, allegedly approving illegitimate payouts related to the airport project’s land clearance and resettlement process.

Previously, Le Van Tiep, Chairman of the Long Thanh District People’s Committee, was also arrested for violating regulations on land compensation and resettlement policies.

The Dong Nai Provincial Police have urged all individuals involved in unlawful compensation distributions to come forward, return misappropriated funds, and cooperate with authorities to qualify for leniency under Vietnam’s legal provisions.

Late last year, investigators conducted raids on the Long Thanh District Culture, Sports, and Tourism Center, where key documents related to land clearance and compensation payments were stored.

As investigations deepen, authorities are expected to expand the probe to uncover the full extent of the fraudulent compensation scheme in one of Vietnam’s largest infrastructure projects.
