Experts from Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre (VBRC) in Tam Dao National Park rescue an Asian Black Bear from a farm of an eco-tour site in Bao Loc District in the central highlands Lam Dong Province.

The rescue was conducted in coordination with the Forest Management Department of the Central Highlands Province of Lam Dong.

The bear was voluntarily handed over to the organisation by Đam B’ri Tourism Joint Stock Company, which once raised 20 bears and other wild animals at its ecological resort. The animals have died over the years.

Earlier, the bear had been cared for, tagged with a microchip and registered at a household in HCM city in 2005.

After its rescue, the bear was named Bao Lam, which means protecting the forest in Vietnamese. The name is derived from combining Bao Loc and Lam Dong, the names of local areas.

Bao Lam will be transported to the organisation’s Bear Rescue Centre in Vinh Phuc Province’s Tam Dao National Park. There, he will be taken care of and rehabilitated before being shifted to an outdoor enclosure with other rescued bears.

The bear was the 163rd to be rescued by the organisation in Viet Nam.

Last year, Animals Asia rescued 41 bears, including 33 from the northern Quang Ninh Province.
