Thang recently made a field trip to inspect the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet highway project in Dong Nai province. “This is a key project. I am impatient about the implementation pace. The project’s management board must take responsibility for the pace and quality. If they can’t, they should prepare to resign,” Thang said.
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has been assigned by the National Assembly and the Government to implement some key projects expected to help accelerate national development. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected projects of this kind early this year and then decided to remove difficulties for them. The Prime Minister stressed that managers must implement the task on schedule, and if they cannot, they must stand aside.
In 2022, MOT has had to fulfill four out of 10 component projects of the North-South Expressway in the 2017-2020 phase 1, including Mai Son - Highway 45, Cam Lo – La Son, Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay.
Inspecting the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet project, Minister Thang said that the real pace of this project is far different from the report. “The report sounds okay, but it is not okay in reality,” he said.
Thang stressed that the projects have been going slowly because of contractors and project management units. He asked them to stop working with contractors who cannot ensure the execution pace and transfer the workload from weak contractors to better ones.
This measure was once applied to the Da Nang Airport terminal and the project was then completed on schedule.
If the Mai Son - Highway 45 project is not dealt with strictly, it may also stay behind schedule as there is still much work to do and not much time left under the plan.
