HCM City-born Minh, seeded fifth at the tournament, came from one set down to overcome the Chinese 14-21, 21-11, 21-14 in more than one hour.
The world No 7 player will play Japanese Kento Momota today in the second round. Momota defeated his compatriot Riichi Takeshita 21-18, 21-14 in the first round.
Last year, the 30-year-old player reached the quarterfinals, where he lost to Hu Yun of Hong Kong 24-21, 21-15.
