Michel Le.

This information is very surprising because Michel Le just worked at the U23 team for less than a week. The overseas Vietnamese midfielder was highly appreciated because he is playing for a French second division FC – Metz and he has been trained as a football player from the age of 10. In addition, Michel Le also has a good form with the high of 1m85 and the weight of 79kg.

Many people believed that Michel Le felt inappropriate with the football environment in Vietnam, especially when he did not perform well in a friendly against Quang Ninh Coal last week.

"Of course I did not prevent him from withdrawing from the team. The opportunity remains for him and I hope he will continue to try the time," said coach Hoang Van Phuc.

Michel Le joined U23 Vietnam on June 2. He returned to Vietnam with his mother and asked the Vietnam Football Federation’s permission for probation at U23 team. However, he left the team after merely five days.

Why many overseas Vietnamese players cannot remain in the national team?

Michel Le is not the first overseas Vietnamese player who has to say goodbye to the Vietnamese national team in silence. So far only Mac Hong Quan has been with the national team.

Most of overseas Vietnamese players returned to Vietnam with the eye-catching resumes, being warmly welcomed, but most of them had to say goodbye very soon.

In 2004, in preparation for the Tiger Cup, the national team welcomed Vietnamese-French midfielder Ludovic Casset, whose father is French and mother is Vietnamese. Ludovic Casset was introduced as an excellent midfielder who played for many clubs in France. However, the excitement was quickly replaced by a feeling of frustration because Ludovic Casset did not show off anything even in the rehearsal. Coach Tavares excluded him from the team.

A year later, Toni Le Hoang - a talented young Vietnamese Polish player was introduced to the U23 team of coach Alfred Reidl. Again the VFF was stunned by a brilliant resume - Toni Le Royal is the best player of the U19 team of Poland. But coach Alfred Reidl had to refuse him because Toni Le Hoang played even worse than Ludovic Casset.

In later years, many overseas Vietnamese players returned home to such as Nguyen Thanh Giang, Patrick, Emil Le Giang ... But all of them had to leave in silence.

Only Mac Hong Quan can stay with the national team. He has made tremendous progress over time and he is one of the greatest hopes of U23 team at this year's SEA Games.

VFF General Secretary Ngo Le Bang said that many overseas Vietnamese players did not outperform Vietnamese players. However, in the football environment that is not really professional in Vietnam, some overseas Vietnamese players were denied not because of expertise. The most regretful case is Lee Nguyen. Lee Nguyen's successful career in the U.S shows that Vietnam has overlooked a talent.
