VietNamNet Bridge - After more than three years without a single case of measles, the HCM City Children's Hospital 1 now receives 5-6 child patients per day with complications.
In the afternoon of January 5, the hospital had 15 child inpatients. Most of them had respiratory complications, pneumonia or ear discharge. They came from HCM City and some southern provinces.
Similarly, in those days, the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases also received many patients suffering from measles. Every day the hospital has nearly a dozen cases.
Dr. Truong Huu Khanh, Head of the Infection - Neurology of the Children's Hospital 1, said that this phenomenon did not occur in the last three years. This disease can increase next year if timely preventive measures are not implemented.
Dr. Khanh also said that most of the cases were not vaccinated.
To prevent the disease, the best approach is vaccination. Children can be vaccinated at 9 and 18 months old. After vaccination of 7 to 14 days, the prophylactic antibody is able to take effect.
