The remains were excavated in Cambodia’s southeastern province of Prey Veng and western province of Pursat during the 2012-2013 dry season by the K91 search team from the Dong Thap provincial Military Headquarters.

Since 2001, the team has collected 1,164 sets of remains of soldiers fallen in Cambodia, mainly in the country’s two aforementioned localities.

Vietnam has set the goal of finding the remains of 10,000 fallen soldiers by 2015.

In the next five years, the country will focus on cases when some information is available, hoping to locate the remains of about 60 percent of these cases.

The search for the remaining lost war martyrs will continue beyond 2020.

Recently, the Prime Minister also established a national steering board, known as Steering Board 150 on identifying remains of fallen soldiers.

It is tasked to scout and collect information in order to locate positions of remains that have no sufficient information as well as find out details on fallen soldiers’ relative through genetic testing.
