December 18 continued to be a successful competition day of the Vietnam sports delegation at the 27th SEA Games as their athletes fought to bring home six additional gold medals, maintaining the country's second spot on the medal count.
Martial artists accounted for five of the day's gold medals thanks to victories from Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan and Chau Tuyet Van (women's team poomsae, taekwondo); Pham Thi Thu Hien (women's 62kg combat, taekwondo); Nguyen Minh Tu and Nguyen Dinh Toan (mixed doubles, taekwondo); Pham Thi Mao and Phan Thi Kieu Duyen (women's doubles, Kempo); and Huynh Nhat Thong (men's 55kg combat, Judo).
The remaining gold medal was captured by Vu Thi Huong in the women's 200m dash with a time of 23.55 seconds. This is Huong's second title at this year's SEA Games, following her 100m dash crown won yesterday.
Vietnam also won 11 more silver from Dao Van Thuy (men's high jump); Nguyen Thanh Tai and Nguyen Ngoc Son (men's doubles demonstration, Judo); Le Ngoc Van Anh and Nguyen Hoang Cam Ha (women's doubles demonstration, Judo); Nguyen Thi Oanh (women's 3,000m steeplechase); Pham Tien San (men's 3,000m steeplechase); Mai Nguyen Hung (men's 163km, cycling); Dao Thien Hai and Nguyen Van Huy (men's doubles transfer chess); Le Thi Thu Hang (women's 57kg combat, Kempo); Le Ngoc Van Anh and Nguyen Hoang Cam Ha (women's Judo Kata); Nguyen Ngoc Son and Nguyen Thanh Tai (men's Judo Nage-no Kata); Nguyen Viet Quoc and Nguyen Thanh Bao My (mixed doubles, Kempo).
Vietnam's medal collection was also boosted with another nine bronze medals won in track and field (5), taekwondo (2) and billiards (2).
