People’s Artist Ly Huynh, one of the pioneers who brought martial arts to Vietnamese cinema, passed away yesterday in HCM City after a long illness. He was 78. 

Traditional martial arts have been developing for centuries in Vietnam, with hundreds of styles nationwide, including Nam Hong Son, Tay Son Binh Dinh and Vovinam. 

 The first ever World Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts Championship will be held in HCM City on July 24-30.

Vietnamese martial arts have a system of performances with different weapon. Apart from  common weapons, each martial arts school uses a distinctive one, such as the two carp weapon of Hong Quyen Chu Gia Martial Arts.

Bac Viet Martial Arts School was established based on the traditional martial arts of the ethnic groups, particularly the Mong ethnic people in the Northwestern region.
