Quang Nam: Hundreds of people live in tents due to earthquakes

Phong told the People's Council of Quang Nam Province at a meeting on December 12 that since earthquakes occurred in the Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant area, local people have no longer been comfortable to live and work.

Although the local government has tried to relieve people’s mind, quakes still occurred complicatedly, causing major damage, so people are still insecure.

Phong said that many investors have quietly left Bac Tra My. Specifically, the central bus station project was abandoned though the district authorities were willing to give the investment special incentives.

"From now on, construction projects in the district will have to take into account of anti-tremor factors according to the standards of the Ministry of Construction. Thus, the construction cost will increase by at least 30%. This is not small that makes investors afraid," said Phong.

This problem has received a lot of attention of voters and delegates.

Mr. Nguyen Van Sy, Chairman of Quang Ngai Province People's Council, commented that the People’s Council would monitor and promote the local government and related agencies to support local people to stabilize their lives and production.
