That’s the results of the police’s survey of the fire at a house on Ton That Thuyet Road, District 4, HCM City last week, which killed Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, 85 years old and his granddaughter - Cao Thi Thuy Tran, 38.
According to the autopsy results, Thao’s body was on the floor of the living room, the arms and legs were curled and charred. Nearby, the police found a gas lighter, some burned clothes that smelt gasoline. Five motorcycles, furniture, clothes and other items were also charred.
The body of his granddaughter was in the room next to the living room and it was slightly smoky. The items in this room were burnt and smoky.
The investigation agency said that recently Mr. Thao told several people about asset conflicts in his family. The man was very said and committed suicide.
Before the incident, Thao visited his parents’ graves in Binh Duong province. Returning home, he asked a xe om driver to buy 15 liters of petrol. In the night of December 5, Thao poured gasoline on his body and the furniture in the living room and ignited it.
Detecting the fire, Mrs. Nguyen Thuy Lieu, 57, Thao’s daughter, her daughter – Ms. Tran and Duong Minh Tuan, 26, Thao’s niece hastily fled out.
Not seeing her grandfather, Tran returned to the bedroom to search for Thao and died there, because of smoke.
