VietNamNet Bridge – Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh, in co-ordination with Hai Duong Province, arrested a man for rape, after nearly 20 years on the run.

Nguyen Van Hai, 37, from Hai Duong Province’s Chi Linh Township, was wanted after he raped a 4-year-old girl in 1999 and then escaped.

When he was in hiding, Hai used the identity card of his friend Pham Van Thuong.

In 2011, taking advantage of the loopholes in paperwork management of the authorities, Hai made a new passport and fled to Russia.

He returned home in early 2015 and lived with a woman in Hai Duong Province’s Thanh Mien District.

However, due to his difficult economic situation, he went to Quang Yen Town in Quang Ninh Province to work as an onboard mechanic.

After a long period of investigation, police arrested Hai on Wednesday while he was working on board a cruise ship, putting an end to his hiding of nearly 20 years.
