VietNamNet Bridge – The People’s Court of the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong on August 20 sentenced Farid Bin Abdullah, a Malaysian, to 16 years in prison for his involvement in a cross-border human trafficking case.

The court also gave a 15-year jail term to Luu Thi Ngoc Hien, a 14-year jail term to As Na Wy and a 6-year imprisonment to Bui Thi Mai Lan – all are accomplices of Farid Bin Abdullah who lives in Selangoa Province of Malaysia.

Four defendants were prosecuted for human trafficking following points a, b, d, e and g of Clause 2, Article 119 of the Criminal Code.

In addition, the defendants must hand in 79.45 million VND of illegally earned money.

According to the indictment, Nguyen Thi Bich Chi, 23, from southern Dong Nai Province, migrated to Malaysia and lived with Farid Bin Abdullad as a couple. They made a plan to entice young Vietnamese girls to leave for Malaysia to work in bars and hotels to serve customers or work as sex workers.

From June to October 2012, Chi, Hien, Wy and Lan sold 16 girls to Farid Bin Abdullah for 19,300 Ringgit (over 125.4 million VND). Fourteen of the girls were brought to Malaysia.

Chi has been arrested by Malaysian police and will be extradited to Vietnam.
