Recently, at the International Film and Television Technology Exhibition Vietnam held in Ho Chi Minh City from June 6th to 8th, over 300 television stations, producers, and content distributors from 15 countries and territories converged to showcase their offerings and explore opportunities in Vietnam.
In discussions with VietNamNet, representatives from three prominent Asian TV stations and media conglomerates - TVB (Hong Kong - China), SBS (South Korea), and IX Media (China) - expressed unanimous optimism about Vietnam's potential as a strategic market for their future endeavors.
According to Ms. Mandy Yip, International Business Controller at TVB, the network's television series have been captivating Vietnamese audiences for over four decades through the official channel (FFVN). TVB has adapted its distribution strategies over the years to encompass digital platforms, with recent collaborations including direct partnerships with SCTV for simultaneous content broadcasts.
Vietnam, characterized by its cultural richness and a populace that cherishes family values, offers fertile ground for entertainment consumption. TVB, with its extensive annual content production exceeding 500 hours, is keen on bolstering collaborations with local broadcasters in Vietnam.
Ms. Jade Xu, Managing Director of IX Media, underscored Vietnam's allure as a burgeoning market, buoyed by cultural affinities shared with China. IX Media's successful endeavors, such as "The Story of Yanxi Palace" and "Nothing but Thirty," resonate with contemporary societal themes, with a focus on multifaceted content distribution across traditional and digital platforms.
SBS, a prominent South Korean television network, has identified Vietnam as a strategic market since the turn of the millennium, coinciding with the Korean Wave. Over the years, SBS has introduced 30 television programs and films to Vietnamese viewers.
Mr. Keon Ko, Global Operations Director of SBS, revealed that the network generates substantial annual revenue (around $500,000) through copyright sales in Vietnam, with plans for further expansion. SBS's acclaimed productions, including "Taxi Driver" and " The escape of the seven," have struck a chord with Vietnamese audiences, while iconic shows like "Running Man" have spurred local adaptations and garnered significant attention.
Looking ahead, Mr. Keon Ko envisions deeper collaboration between Vietnam and South Korea in the realm of film production and content creation, reflecting the evolving landscape of media partnerships in the region.
