According to one provider of this type of service, several scenarios for each woman are written to cater to each customer's needs. To create a realistic situation, customers must learn the names and jobs of the "wife". The wife can be hired for just a day, or for up to several months. Normally, it costs VND30 million (USD1,400) to VND60 million for complete service. "The prices also depend on the wife's beauty or education," he said.
Contracts do not provide for sexual relations.
Another of these services, headquartered on Truong Chinh Street, in Hanoi, gave detailed advice when talking to a reporter who was disguised as a customer. He was told, "You should ask your parents about the characteristics they prefer in a daughter-in-law. In my opinion, you should only take one formal photo, then some others of you doing things that include normal daily activities to dodge of any suspicion," the man said.
He went on to say that once the service had a request from a gay male from Nam Dinh. "It was only after his family were not persuaded that he came to us," he said.
One provider of such services located on Hoang Minh Giam Street said their services were to help singles who feel pressured by their families to get married. Along with marriage services, they also provide believable divorce scenarios.
When the reporter showed reluctance to pay for the service, the man behind the counter said that money could be saved by arranging a marriage with a woman who wanted a paper marriage in order to legalise an unwanted pregnancy.
"She is from Binh Phuoc Province, and she rich. If you agree, both of your problems will be solved, and who knows, the girl may even pay your debts for you."
Even though this service has been in Vietnam for some time, it has already become a profitable business with many internet ads.
