L’Usine is hosting "Water is Life" art exhibition by New York-based artist Sto Len at its outlet on Dong Khoi Street and “Season Energeia” exhibition by Japanese artist Yohei Yama at L’Usine Le Thanh Ton. Both venues are in District 1, HCMC.

During his time in Vietnam, Sto Len has explored the local waterways of HCMC to capture stories about water with prints, video and sound.

In “Water is Life”, he focuses on local waterways and their communities, giving voice to the global struggle to make water clean.

Sto Len is a printmaker, sculptor, painter, musician and curator with interest in improvisation and experimentation within a variety of media.

His current body of work integrates the traditional art of Suminagashi with experimental marbling on found maps, books, and printed propaganda.

The American artist has exhibited his artwork internationally, including exhibitions in New York, Vietnam, Japan, London, Australia, Denmark, Canada and Mexico City.

For “Season Energeia” at L’Usine Le Thanh Ton, Yohei Yama is inspired by the ever-revolving cycle of nature and life.

As water in the monsoon season soaks the city and its plants, the painted lines of Yama’s works flow and interconnect. Diffracted hues ripple across the canvas, and tree motifs grow and multiply in appreciation towards the rain and light.

According to the artist, viewers lend their ears to his work and listen to the strong sound of rain, wind and thunder.

Born in Saitama, Japan in 1977, Yohei Yama now lives and works in HCMC. Originally a photographer by trade and traveler by nature, he had his first solo show of paintings in Arles, France and has continued as a painter ever since, with exhibitions across the globe.

"Water is Life" runs until September 15, 2018 while “Season Energeia” stays open until August 6, 2018.
