VietNamNet Bridge – A man in the central province of Nghe An has discovered a giant lingzhi mushroom deep in the forest at the Vietnam-Laos border. As the mushroom is too big, only two of seven branches of the tree were brought home.
The owner of the giant mushroom is Pham Dinh Toan, a male resident in Tuong Duong district of Nghe An province.
Toan said one week earlier a local lumberman found a giant lingzhi. Toan bought it for VND30 million ($1,500).
He took four men into the wood where the giant mushroom was discovered. As the path was too far and bumpy and the mushroom was too big, Toan and his workers could take away only two of the seven branches of the lingzhi mushroom home.
According to Toan, the mushroom weighs about 70kg, with seven branches. The largest branch weighs 51,3kg, 1.2m long, 0.5m wide, and 0,65m height. The smallest mushroom is as big as a sun-helmet, with a diameter of around 30-40cm.
One face of the mushroom is in bright red color and the other side is milky white. Many people believe that this mushroom is thousands of years old.
Many people have flocked to Toan’s home to see the mushroom. Some offered VND80 million for the tree but Toan has not sold it.
It is said that the mushroom may sell for more than VND100 million ($5,000).
