Arthurus from Lithuania has been living in HCM City for five years and is a content creator famous for videos about tourism. He has a YouTube channel with 11,000 followers.
In his video posted earlier this year, he revealed that he returned to Vietnam after visiting his hometown in Northern Europe to enjoy more Vietnamese delicious dishes, especially banh chung (square glutinous rice cake).
As soon as he arrived in HCM City, Arthurus went to Nguyen Thuong Hien street to enjoy street food.
“I want to try the Vietnamese traditional banh chung which is wrapped up in banana leaves. I also want to drink coffee and taste some other street dishes,” he said.
He chose Nguyen Thuong Hien street because he knows it is called a paradise of food for youth in HCM City.
Though he came to the street at noon, not during peak hours (7-11pm), he saw a bustling atmosphere with a lot of restaurants, serving diverse dishes.
When walking along the street to find a meal for lunch, Arthurus saw a shop that sold Northwestern roasted meat and was attracted by the hot, fragrant skewers.
After asking about the price, the YouTuber decided to order a skewer which he found delicious and repeatedly gave compliments about it.
“I have been in Vietnam for a long time, but I had never tried this before. This is my first time. It is so great,” Arthurus told the owner of the restaurant.
The guest from Europe commented that the meat was “perfectly cooked, looked beautiful, tasted a bit sweet and is served with herbs and delicious dipping sauce.”
He appreciated the service by the restaurant’s workers who served other food, though he ordered only one skewer of roasted meat. The workers also repeatedly asked him if the meat fit his taste.
He continued walking along the street and found a shop selling pork pies and sausages. Though he was seeking banh chung, he bought some ‘cha bo’ (Vietnamese beef bologna), nem chua (sour meat pie) and cha gio (spring rolls) and said all the dishes left a good impression.
He also tasted banh bao chien (fried dumpling) and banh quai vac (Vietnamese Crispy Dumplings) and found them all delicious.
