VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem had his first win in the opening match of the 2013 World Blitz and Rapid Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia on June 6.
With a wealth of experience, he easily defeated Rakhim Pasiev (19-year-old from Russia) after 30 moves.
However, Liem was held to a draw in the second match with Mohammed Al-Sayed (Qatar) after 47 moves.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son drew with Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine) in the 43rd move of the first match but was beaten by Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) after 34 moves of the second match.
In the third match, Liem drew with Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine) after 77 moves, but Son was defeated by Vladislav Artemiev (Russia) after 66 moves.
In the fourth match, Liem gained his second win over Sergei Rublevsky (Russia) and Son drew with Pavel Ponkratov (Russia) after 74 moves.
Later, in the fifth match, both Liem and Son were defeated by Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) and Nikolai Kabanov (Russia).
After five matches, Liem has got 4 points and Son 1 point.
