Coach Lam Minh Chau, Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son went to Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia to attend the tournament from June 4 to 11.
As a rule, all players with an Elo rating of 2500 in any content in standard chess, blitz chess and rapid chess from 1.03.2013 are eligible to participate in the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship.
On the Vietnam chess team, there are many players who achieve this standard, but the tournament groups up the leading chess players in the world so the Vietnam Chess Federation decided to send the most brilliant players - national rapid chess champion Le Quang Liem (Elo 2705 for rapid chess) and the runner-up Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Elo 2631 for rapid chess) to the event.
The World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship has the presence of top players such as Magnus Carlsen (Norway) with Elo 2868, Levon Aronian (Armenia) Elo 2813, Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) Elo 2811 and Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) Elo 2793.
