The HCM City-native player who has Elo rating of 2706 beat R. Guerra of Spain, Elo 2442 in the round four. This victory was a good driving force for 2013 blitz world champion to best C Jimenez Fidel of the hosts, Elo 2532 in the next round.

The two-time Aeroflot Open champion will meet Kayden Troff, Elo 2532 in the sixth round.

Competition at the tourney is in the format of a nine-round Swiss System. The winner will receive US$5,000, while first and second will receive $2,500 and $1,500, respectively.
