Having drawn his previous match and losing 3.4 Elo points at the ongoing Dubai Open, Le Quang Liem put on a strong display in beating Shyaamnikhil of India during his third match of the competition on April 3.

The victory helped Liem earn 2.5 points and increase his Elo rating to 2702.
The Vietnamese super grandmaster is set to enjoy the advantage of holding the white pawn for his fourth match against Vishnu Prasanna of India (Elo rating 2515). His next opponent previously came in seventh place during the HDBank 2017 chess tournament.
Elsewhere in the competition, talented chess player Nguyen Anh Khoi (Elo rating 2481) lost 3 Elo points as he was held to a draw by Kunal M of India (Elo rating 2258) after 65 moves. He gained 2 points overall after three matches.
Among the top 10 leading chess players at the tournament who have earned 3 additional points is Maxim Matlakov of Russia (Elo rating 2692). He is considered Le Quang Liem’s biggest challenge in the competition.
The Dubai Open, which is transpiring between April 1 and 9, has attracted the participation of 163 chess players, including 35 grandmasters.
Liem is the only super grandmaster taking part in the tournament.
