Liem won a championship title at the April’s Final Four of College Chess in New York. He then bagged an individual gold and a team silver at the Asian championship.

He jumped two steps up compared to last month’s position.

His career best ranking was No 25 in October in 2011.

Ly Hoang Nam defeated at Indian F2 Futures tennis tournament

Ly Hoang Nam suffered a shocking loss in the first round of the Indian F2 Futures tennis tournament yesterday.

Vietnamese Nam, who jumped to the world’s No 895 spot, was defeated 2-6, 4-6 by Bernardo Saraiva of Portugal, who ranked No 1,629.

It was the second time Nam lost to a lower-ranked rival in the first-round match of the Men’s Futures.

Next week, he will take part in the F3 Futures event, also in Ludhiana, India.

Hoang Nam up two spots in ATP rankings

Vietnam top tennis player Ly Hoang Nam on May 2 jumped two spots to the 895th slot in the latest ATP rankings.

This is the best ranking a Vietnamese tennis player has ever achieved.

To secure the position, the 19-year-old player will have to make it to at least the quarterfinals of the upcoming India Futures 2016 for May 2-8, according to an announcement by his coaching staff.
