For the first time, the Le Brothers (Lê Ngọc Thanh and Lê Đức Hải) will hold a joint art exhibition today combining sculpture arrangements with orchids at one of the most beautiful and largest houses in Hội An.
A human’s life is like a branch of an orchid that we have to attempt to live and survive along with nature.
Titled Lan – Lan (Orchid - Orchid), the exhibition links the tradition and the modernity of Việt Nam and interacts with visual perception.
“Man is always parallel to nature, especially nature. We can only interact and integrate with nature, but we can not force and coerce nature,” Hải said.
“A human’s life is like a branch of an orchid that we have to attempt to live and survive along with nature. If you fight against nature, you will kill yourself.”
The twin artists show their love for the natural and cultural world of Việt Nam by combining metal, wood, water, fire and earth to create an overall system for the contemporary artworks.
The artists will showcase installation arts consisting of 24 wood sculptures measuring 40cm by 80cm stuck to blooming orchids.
The brothers were born in 1975 in the central province of Quảng Bình. They were first noticed as artists of Vietnamese lacquer painting of war topics. In 2000, they graduated from the Huế College of Arts where Thanh studied lacquer painting and Hải studied oil painting.
The Le Brothers are known for their unique approach to history, identity and the interpretation of the past in the present, and have exhibited and performed nationally and internationally in the UK, Germany, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Canada, France and Iran.
Their works have been displayed at numerous national and international museums and collections.
The exhibition will open until November 8 at Xứ Đàng Trong Arts Centre, 9 Nguyễn Thái Học, Hội An City. — VNS
