More than 80 domestic and international teams will take part in the off-road car racing tournament in Buôn Đôn District, Đắk Lắk Province on August 12-17.

The tournament “Challenge over mountains and thick forest – Buôn Đôn 2023” brings together strong teams from South Korea, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Australia. While in Việt Nam, the race brings together strong off-road car racing teams from provinces and cities such as Hà Nội, HCM City, Đà Nẵng, Thái Nguyên and Lạng Sơn.

This is the first professional off-road racing tournament held in the Central Highlands.

The race track in Buôn Đôn is considered an attractive and dramatic route thanks to its legendary forests and proximity to the land of elephants in Đắk Lắk Province.

The track was designed by two leading experts in the field of race design from Australia and Malaysia.

It is divided into three classes including the original class, the upgraded class and the professional class.

The winning team will take a cash prize of VNĐ100-150 million (US$4,200-6,300).

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Đắk Lắk Province Lại Đức Đại said through the event, the organising board wishes to build an off-road car race movement in the country and can integrate with the international community.

The event is expected to be a breakthrough for speed enthusiasts, making a positive contribution to the development of tourism and sports in the Central Highlands region.

In other news, after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Việt Nam Pickup Festival, the largest event in the pickup community of three regions in the country, has just taken place in Hội An, with the participation of more than 1,000 members from Pickup Việt Nam Club (PVC), Pickup and Friends (PNF) and Pickup Đà Nẵng Club (PDC).

With the theme "growing up together", the festival aimed to build a united, civilised, and friendly pickup truck community, spreading the love for pickup trucks to the entire Vietnamese car community.

The festival included various competitive activities such as off-road driving and motocross racing. This year's festival featured a programme of safe driving instruction, sharing off-road driving skills and first aid instruction. — VNS
