This is a pair of giant monolithic rocks shaped like two elephants. The larger one is near the foot of a mountain called Đá voi mẹ (Mother Elephant Rock); and the smaller one called Đá voi cha (Father Elephant Rock).
The Mother Elephant Rock is about the same size as a mountain with a length of about 200m, a circumference of about 500m at the foot, and over 30m high. This is the largest monolithic piece of granite in Vietnam.
The Mother Elephant Rock is near the foot of a mountain range in Chu Yang Sin National Park and the Father Elephant Rock is located in the middle of a plain, about 5km away from the Mother Elephant Rock.
Father Elephant Rock has a smaller size than Mother Elephant rock, only 70m in length and about 180m in circumference. At the foot of the rocky mountain is a vast green rice field, with lots of bees and butterflies, creating a beautiful natural scene.
It takes about 15 minutes to reach the top of Mother Elephant Rock. The climb is not too tough, but climbers have to get over some gentle slopes. Standing on its summit, visitors will take in a panoramic view of the surrounding majestic nature such as Yang Reh Lake and Chu Yang Sin Forest, the roof of the Central Highlands.
Although it is not difficult to get to the top, visitors should wear a good pair of shoes and must be careful as the trail can be slippery. It is recommended not to climb the rock on windy and rainy days when it is riskier.
Elephant rocks are famous in Dak Lak. Couples get there when they prepare to get married. Local people believe that when a couple falls in love and comes here, a stone god will protect their love forever.
