Lang Son is a northern mountainous province with popular terrain of low mountains and hills, and an average altitude of 252m above sea level. Like other northern mountainous provinces, up to 84.74% of its total population are ethnic minorities.

However, Lang Son has a convenient transportation system, and a 253 km long border with China. With two international border gates (Huu Nghi and Dong Dang), 2 national border gates (Chi Ma, Binh Nghi) and 7 pairs of border markets, Lang Son has favorable conditions to become a crossroads point and an important trade center of the country, a trade point with China, then to Central Asia and Europe.

In the current conditions, when the State is implementing investment policies to develop border gate economic zones, Lang Son has more conditions to develop its economy, especially the trade and tourism sector. The border gate economic zone is considered the most dynamic development area, playing the role of driving force in promoting socio-economic development, and the focus of economic restructuring.

Thanks to the convenient transportation system, trade activities in Lang Son have been very vibrant in recent years. The volume of Vietnamese goods exported to China via border gates in Lang Son has been on the rise. The rapid development of Lang Son trade has contributed to promoting production development, improving people's living standards, and increasing local and central budget revenue.

Permanent Deputy Secretary of Lang Son Provincial Party Committee Hoang Van Nghiem emphasized that 2024 plays an important role and is a pivotal year in implementing the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress. To complete the tasks in 2024, and at the same time achieve the targets set by the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress, Lang Son will focus on implementing the development planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050; promptly reviewing and adjusting the land use planning in accordance with its development planning, regional planning, and national planning.

Lang Son will proactively implement the three National Target Programs, the Socio-Economic Recovery and Development Program and other programs and projects on socio-economic development in the period 2021-2025; Promote investment attraction, with priority given to key industries, urgently select investors for infrastructure development projects of industrial zones and clusters.
