Kyuhyun, a member of the K-pop group Super Junior, visited Vung Tau (Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) with his manager, hairstylist, and a friend a few months ago.
The singer previously traveled to Vung Tau in July 2024 while on tour in Ho Chi Minh City. During that visit, he and two other group members arrived in Vietnam a few days early and spent a short time exploring the coastal city.
Impressed by Vung Tau, which is over 100 km from Ho Chi Minh City, Kyuhyun decided to return just a few months later, focusing mainly on discovering local cuisine.
Besides the well-known banh khot (Vietnamese mini savory pancakes), the Korean artist revealed his deep love for Vung Tau’s famous hu tieu (noodle soup).
A must-try dish in Vung Tau
Kyuhyun and his group dined at a popular eatery on Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Thang Tam Ward, Vung Tau. The restaurant specializes in various hu tieu dishes, including dry hu tieu and seafood hu tieu.
This was also the last place Kyuhyun and two other Super Junior members had a meal before returning to Ho Chi Minh City for their concert preparations in July 2024.
“This dish is so good that I promised myself I’d come back next time. And today, I’m introducing it to you,” Kyuhyun said.
At the restaurant, he ordered two servings of dry seafood hu tieu (70,000 VND each) and two servings of mixed hu tieu (90,000 VND each).
Just like his previous visit, the singer once again opted for the mixed hu tieu with steaming hot broth and fresh seafood ingredients.
He also guided his friends on how to properly enjoy the dish, explaining the differences between dry and soupy hu tieu.
Taking his first sip of the broth, Kyuhyun couldn’t hide his excitement, exclaiming that the taste remained just as incredible as before.
“This broth is the best hangover cure,” he commented.
A unique taste experience
Kyuhyun described hu tieu as a chewy, uniquely flavored noodle dish, different from the pho he had tried before. The dish is typically served with fresh seafood and meats such as char siu, shrimp, mantis shrimp, and squid.
So impressed by the dish, he brought his friends to try it as well. “This hu tieu is just too good. That’s why I came back and why I brought you all here,” he shared.
His manager, Yoomin, also praised the dry hu tieu, appreciating its balanced flavors, particularly its subtle sweetness. He even ordered an extra serving of soup-based hu tieu to compare the different styles.
Seeing how much his friends enjoyed the meal, Kyuhyun playfully suggested they add chili oil to enhance the flavor.
A surprise delight: iced tea
Beyond the food, the Super Junior member was also taken aback by another local favorite - iced tea.
He was surprised that the drink cost only 3,000 VND per glass and had a distinctive, refreshing taste.
Loving the drink, he initially ordered three glasses but later requested three more, much to his friends' amusement.
“I don’t mind splurging on iced tea, so let’s get three more to go. It’s only 9,000 VND (about 520 won),” he joked.
At the end of the meal, Kyuhyun paid a total of 428,000 VND, covering three servings of mixed hu tieu, two servings of dry seafood hu tieu, and six glasses of iced tea.
“This is a meal that our entire group enjoyed,” he said.
