Huynh Tu found her mother's hidden stash of gold inside a trash bin.

The amusing story was shared by Huynh Tu, a resident of Rach Gia City, on her personal social media page. Tu posted a photo of dozens of gold rings wrapped in plastic, accompanied by a witty caption: "With mom away, I suddenly felt motivated to clean the house - only to stumble upon a legendary treasure long forgotten. Talk about motivation to tidy up!"

Despite being shared only on her personal page, the post quickly garnered hundreds of likes and comments. Friends and followers expressed amazement at her mother’s unique hiding place and Tu’s lucky find.

“A random cleaning spree that paid off big time - lucky you!”
“Now I feel like cleaning every day just in case!”
“Wonder how mom’s going to react when she finds out her hiding spot has been discovered…”

These were just a few of the humorous responses from netizens.

Speaking with VietNamNet, Tu said she made the discovery on the morning of April 2 and was still in disbelief.

Her mother, who is 74 and in excellent health, lives with her in Rach Gia City. Originally, the family is from An Minh District.

“On April 1, I drove my mom to our hometown for the Thanh Minh ancestral ceremony, then returned to the city in the afternoon. The next morning, while she was still away, I started cleaning the house, including her room,” Tu recalled.

While sweeping under her mother's bed, she found a small trash bin. At first, she didn’t think much of it - her mother often takes medication and keeps a bin nearby for wrappers and packaging. Tu picked up the bin to throw out its contents when she suddenly heard a clinking sound.

Curious, she opened a wrapped bundle of paper and was stunned to find gold rings inside - some weighing one, two, even five chi (Vietnamese unit of gold).

“There were two bundles of gold, but I only photographed one. In total, there were nearly 20 rings of various sizes. I was completely surprised - I burst out laughing,” she said.

Tu immediately called her mother to tell her what she’d found. Her mom’s response made her laugh even harder: "If you know what’s good for you, put it back exactly where you found it and come pick me up right now!"

“I had to convince her to stay in the countryside for the rest of Thanh Minh. As for the gold, I promised to keep it safe and return it later,” Tu added.

Her mother has long enjoyed buying and collecting gold. Whenever she had extra money, she would invest in gold jewelry. On special occasions, Tu often gifted her gold as well.

“I always knew mom had gold and that she liked to hide it in different places, but I never asked questions. As long as it makes her happy, that’s all that matters,” Tu said.

Tu’s father passed away early, and her mother raised four children on her own. Among them, Tu has always been the closest.

“Ever since I was little, mom went everywhere with me. Even though she has a home in the countryside, she was willing to move to the city to support me in my career. I’m deeply grateful to have her by my side.”

“As for the gold, mom has said she’ll divide it among her children and grandchildren one day as keepsakes. But that’s her decision. Right now, I just want her to enjoy her golden years in peace and comfort,” Tu shared.
