Witnessing the strange object surfacing on water surface, people may have thought that they were seeing a spaceship.
A video showing a strange-looking flying saucer which reminded people of an unidentified flying object (UFO) in science fiction movies spread virally through the internet recently.
The flying object can open and close its doors automatically. It is also equipped with engines which can carry two persons and move well on water.
After the video appeared on social networks, it attracted millions of views and hundreds of thousand of likes, shares and comments. Many people have expressed their amazement about the creativity and skill of the creator.
The UFO model is a product of Tran Long Ho, born in 1987 in Kien Giang province. On social networks, Ho calls himself ‘thanh che’ (God of Modification), and introduces his original models made of old boats and engines.
“I have a curiosity and passion for flying objects. I have loved watching movies and reading newspapers about the type of vehicle believed to be a product of aliens,” he said.
“Later, I decided to design and create an object of my own so that I can experience the feeling of sitting and driving the objects on river. I have made objects based on my imagination about UFOs,” he said.
At first, he used charcoal to draw concentric circles on the floor and then covered it with sand to create a mold that resembled a flying saucer. After that, he poured liquid composite resin into the mold, creating the cover layer.
When the mold dried, he reinforced it by bending, cutting, and welding iron inside. Then he cut the doors and installed motors so that the two doors could open and close automatically with a switch.
To make the model lively and eye catching, he created windows with modern patterns seen in science fiction movies. He also decorated the flying object with colorful lamps and a beautiful switch panel with many press buttons.
Finally, he used engines from old vehicles. After the model was completed, he brought the object to the river and ran it witnessed by friends and passersby.
Ho said he created it in silence and kept it as a secret. When it was put into trial run, it attracted many curious people.
From ashore, he pressed the remote control to open the UFO’s doors and entered inside the object. After closing the doors, he turned the object on and began driving it. The UFO glided on the water surface smoothly.
Many people joked that they were witnessing a real alien’s flying saucer.
Ho told VietNamNet that it cost him VND60 million to make the model. The money was mostly used to buy old materials, scrap and decorative accessories. The UFO can have a speed of 40 kilometers per hour and can carry two persons inside.
The outer shell is made of composite, reinforced with iron, and has a disc shape so it cannot tip over. Unless there is a strong impact that breaks the shell, and water flows inside, the model will be damaged and sink.
As the UFO’s shell is made of composite with reinforcement with iron, and it has a dish shape, it cannot be overturned, unless it crashes into other objects which leads to the cover break and water flood into the inner space.
Before introducing the UFO, Ho many times caught attention on the internet when introducing other products made of scrap. The products generated by his creativity include water spider boat, self-modified yacht, 3 wheel vehicle, and speed boat.
Ho can create mechanical engineering products though he has never been trained. The products are all the results of his research and experimentation.
Ho said he creates products based on the principle ‘learning as you go’. If necessary, he checks information on the internet and learns from engineers.
Ho was once a maintenance worker at a hotel. In 2020, as he did not have enough money to buy a boat to travel on the river, he decided to repair broken boats and upgrade them to create boats of his own.
To his surprise, the videos he posted on social networks attracted attention from viewers. This prompted him to quit his job and become a content creator.
