Nguyen Anh Khoi of Viet Nam won one match and drew one yesterday to jump to the fourth position in the World Youth Chess Championships boys' U12 rankings.
In the fifth round, Khoi defeated Gavrilescu David of Romania and then drew with Zarubitski Viachaslau of Belarus at the International Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa.
The Vietnamese master will next play Poland's Teclaf Pawel.
In the girls' U8 category, Luu Ha Bich Ngoc stayed in the top 10 group with one win and one loss yesterday.
Ngoc has 4.5 points, 0.5 less than the top players, and is ranked sixth. She will play Russian Zvereva Margarita in the next round.
