Nguyen Huu Trung, 29, was found early on Monday morning by some residents at a mountainous area in Ninh Hoa Commune, some five kilometres from the Ba Ho Tourist Site where he went missing on February 17.
According to the man's father, Nguyen Huu Thom, Trung was found at 1 am on February 26 by some local people who were fishing at a nearby spring.
"Trung said that saw the fishermen and managed to get their attention," the father said. "He was exhausted and had some skin injuries. He was brought by the fishermen to their house and has improved after receiving their care and treatment."
The father also said that Trung had some food in his backpack. He also ate some fruits he found in the forest and drank water from the spring. He tried to look for ways out but failed, and so he decided to stay at the foot of an electric pylon waiting for help.
The tourist was going on a picnic at the tourist site with his six family members at 10.30 am on February 17. While other people stopped for a rest, Trung continued going. After that, the group were unable to contact Trung and informed managers of the site to ask for help.
Local authorities sent a rescue team of over 100 people to the tourist site lying some 25 kilometres north of Nha Trang City.
The Ba Ho Tourist Site is surrounded by high cliffs, waterfalls and springs and is a popular destination for hiking and trekking tours.
