In the video, the tourist reveals she spent VND 1.5 million (approx. USD 59) to have a custom-designed dress made at the popular local market. Just one day later, she received a finished dress that fit perfectly, matched her desired style, and featured meticulous stitching that flattered her figure.

"I was truly satisfied with the dress. I wore it to an important event in Yokohama, Japan," the tourist told VietNamNet.

The video left many viewers surprised at the speed and quality of the tailoring service at Ben Thanh Market. They praised the craftsmanship and felt the price was quite reasonable.

“I thought this kind of service only existed in Hoi An”; “Same-day tailoring with this quality? Amazing - definitely worth trying”; “Very affordable for a custom dress”… were some of the online comments.

Located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Ben Thanh Market is a long-standing symbol of the city and a magnet for tourists. Covering 13,000 square meters, the market is divided by merchandise type. The East Gate on Phan Boi Chau Street specializes in fabrics, clothing, shoes, and accessories.

The West Gate on Phan Chu Trinh Street focuses on dried food. The South Gate on Le Loi Street, the market’s busiest entrance, features cosmetics, watches, and souvenirs. The North Gate on Le Thanh Ton Street houses fresh food stalls selling meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit.

The video, posted by Jessica Nana, a 28-year-old Japanese national, has attracted more than 500,000 views and has been widely shared across social media. Jessica is currently living and working in New Zealand and runs a fashion business in Japan.

She visited Vietnam in early 2024 to see friends and travel to Ho Chi Minh City and Da Lat (Lam Dong Province).

“I uploaded the video back in February last year. I’m really surprised that people are still so interested in it,” Jessica said.

She explained that while exploring Ben Thanh Market, she noticed numerous tailor shops and asked a vendor if any could create a custom dress she had in mind. One vendor confidently said it could be completed within 24 hours. Surprised and skeptical, Jessica decided to give it a try.

She selected the fabric color and material, had her measurements taken, and negotiated the price. “The cost of VND 1.5 million included both the fabric and labor. I thought it was very reasonable. In Japan, that amount would barely cover just the fabric,” she said.

Despite working in the fashion industry herself, Jessica was still impressed by the tailoring process. “I couldn’t believe how they managed to complete the dress in just one day for such an affordable price.”

“They made the dress almost exactly as I imagined, and the staff spoke English fluently, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable,” Jessica added.

During her time in Vietnam, she especially loved the cafés and pho restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. “I had 4 to 5 bowls of pho in just one week. I’ve tried Vietnamese pho in Tokyo and Paris, which are great, but pho in Ho Chi Minh City is even better,” she shared.

Jessica said she hopes to return to Vietnam soon to explore more destinations.
