VietNamNet Bridge – Three ships belonging to the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force Training Squadron, with 750 crew members docked at Da Nang's Tien Sa port on September 19 for a four-day visit and a joint training course with the Vietnamese navy.
The squadron, which comprises JS Kashima, Shirayuki and JDS Isoyuki, arrived for search and rescue, and sport competitions with Vietnam's Naval Zone C, the Military Zone 5 and the city people's committee.
Rear Admiral Fumiyuki Kitagawa, commander of the Japan Training Squadron, said the visit was part of a range of activities held by the two countries to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
He said the visit would promote knowledge-sharing between the two naval forces in the field of search and rescue.
The trip follows a visit by training ship Kojima of the Japan Coast Guard to Da Nang City in July.
Training ship JS Kashima is the largest of the three safeguard ships, with a displacement of 4,050 tons, a length of 143m, a width of 18m, running at a speed of 25 nautical miles per hour.
The two other ships have the same specifications, with a displacement of 2,950 tons, 130m long, 13.6 m wide, running at a speed of 30 nautical miles per hour.
These ships are equipped with modern radar and weapon systems.
