On January 29, the third Vietnam-Japan defence policy dialogue was held in Hanoi reviewing bilateral defence cooperation over the recent past and discussing regional issues of shared concern.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, while Vice Defence Minister Tokuchi Hideshi headed the Japanese delegation.

Both sides agreed the two ministries will maintain defence policy dialogues at deputy ministerial level while continue to exchange delegations at different levels. They will also assist each other in personnel training and share experience in coping with natural disasters, conducting search and rescue and overcoming consequences of bombs and mines left by the war.

The two sides consented to boost defence ties in the interests of the two countries’ people and for the sake of peace, stability and development in the region and the world at large.

During his stay in Vietnam, the Japanese Vice Minister for Defence is scheduled to visit some  units of the Vietnam People’s Army.
