The e-visa application process would be recommended when tourism companies designated to organize package tours to Japan have completed the necessary preparations for their guests.

Under this policy, e-visas will be available to Vietnamese passport holders residing in Vietnam who are applying for short-visit visas with single entry for leisure travel, with a maximum stay of 15 days.

E-visa holders will be required to produce the “Visa issuance notice” on their mobile phones, iPads, or other devices with an internet connection to the immigration officer upon arrival. This means PDFs, screenshots or printed copies of the notice will not be accepted.

Statistics from the Japan National Tourism Organization indicate that Vietnam is one of Japan’s key tourism source markets, sending a significant number of visitors to the country during the first eight months of the year. Vietnam ranks seventh in terms of arrivals to Japan, after South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the U.S.

In August alone, the number of Vietnamese travelers to Japan reached 50,000, a 16.5% increase compared to the pre-pandemic same period. From January to August, Japan welcomed 397,000 visitors from Vietnam, a 17.4% surge versus the same period in 2019.

Conversely, Japanese visitors to Vietnam are estimated to have reached around 414,000 in the first nine months of this year, securing Japan’s fifth position among Vietnam’s largest source markets for tourism.
