After many days of waiting, Vietnamese Apple’s fan community could see iPhone SE on March 22.

The product is described as ‘something between iPhone 5S and iPhone 6S’. It has the design of an iPhone 5 and strong configuration of iPhone 6.

The 4-inch screen and the appearance have disappointed Vietnamese users.

On high-tech forums, many members complained that iPhone SE has ‘outdated design’ because it looks just like the product Apple released three years ago.

Many Vietnamese have expressed their disappointment about the newly marketed iPhone SE. Distributors think iPhone SE won’t cause a buying ‘fever’.
“You won’t be able to tell the difference between iPhone SE and iPhone 5S you look at their appearance. The only ‘new’ thing is that iPhone SE has the version in Rose Gold color that iPhone 5S doesn’t have,” a member said.

Hoang Nhat Nam, an office worker, said he would rather spend more money to get an iPhone 6 than a cheaper iPhone SE with the design exactly the same with iPhone 5S of three years ago.

“My friends will laugh at me if I use an iPhone SE. They may think I use the outdated iPhone 5S. I will really lose face,” he said.

“I don’t think the strong configuration of iPhone SE could be a feature that helps attract customers,” he continued. “It is now 2016 and a high-tech product must have such features at minimum.”

Regarding technical features, Nam noted that though iPhone SE is ‘very strong’ with A9 chip and RAM 2G, iPhone SE doesn’t have many interesting features like 3D Touch. Meanwhile, 3D Touch, which is available in iPhone 6S, has received big interest.

The owner of a smartphone shop on Thai Ha commented that iPhone SE has not been welcomed in Vietnam because ‘it is not expensive’.

iPhone SE has the retail price of $400-500, which is beyond the financial capability of low income earners. Meanwhile, high income earners say iPhone SE is too cheap which cannot show their upper class in society.

“Vietnamese do not regret money on luxury goods, even though Vietnam is a poor country with the average annual income of $2,000,” he commented.

“The iPhone SE would not attract Vietnamese just because of the low price with which the manufacturer targets middle-class customers,” he said, adding that in general, low-cost products won’t attract Vietnamese, even though the products are made by Apple.

VTV reported that retail shops in Vietnam have begun taking orders for iPhone SE at the price of VND11 million.

iPhone 7 will hit the market in six months.
