On the evening of 21/10, rising Saigon River water combined with heavy rain caused a series of roads in HCM City to be flooded, causing traffic disturbances.

In the lower areas, water spilled over into houses, disturbing the lives of people. Many families had to use sandbags to prevent flooding and scooped water out.

The roads of Nguyen Duy Trinh, Tran Nao (District 2), Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, Highway 13 (Binh Thanh District), Le Van Luong, Lam Van Ben, Mai Van Vinh, Tran Xuan Soan (District 7), Binh Dong (District 8), Phu Dinh Wharf (District 6) ... were submerged in a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 m.

Earlier, according to forecasts of the Southern Region Meteorological Forecast Station, the highest tide in mid-October would be only 1.58 m (appearing at 18:30 on 20/10). However, the water level was up to 1.68m at Phu An station on the Saigon River last night, exceeding last year's historic level (1.62m) of 6 cm.

The Southern Region Meteorological Forecast Station says that experts are still undetermined about the reasons why tides were unusually high.

Previously, experts warned that because of fast urbanization and the leveling of canals, water level in the Saigon River will be rising annually if the city does not have effective measures.

Saigon people have been surrounded by water for 10 days.
