VietNamNet Bridge - Along the coast of Ha Long Bay, the most famous World Heritage site of Vietnam, there are nine vessels worth dozens of million USD that have been abandoned for a couple of years.

The abandoned vessels are anchored in the area of Cap Be island, in Bach Dang ward, the city of Ha Long.

Hoang Van Thang, 54, who has been fishing in the area for more than 10 years, said he usually anchors his fishing boat near these vessels whenever it is stormy. He said there is no guard for the vessels.

Nguyen The Vinh, Chair of Bach Dang Ward, said these vessels had been left here for four years. They are assets of Vinashin Ocean Shipping Company Ltd. a subsidiary of Vinashinlines.

All of them are damaged and rusty.

“These ships are in disrepair and they have severely affected Ha Long’s environment,” said the Chair of Bach Dang ward.

Quang Ninh authorities have asked Vinashinlines to urgently handle these ships but the province has not received Vinashinlines’ reply.

An official of Vinashinlines said the vessels are among dozens of abandoned ships of Vinashinlines. They have not been handled properly because the ship owners and its creditors cannot reach an agreement on the sharing of revenue from the liquidation of the ships.
