The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on September 10 in Ban Cai Commune, Bac Ha District.
Initial reports suggest that the landslide severely damaged the hydropower plant’s operations center, leaving several people injured and 5 others feared missing.
At the time of the incident, a police officer from Ban Cai Commune, who was on duty nearby, discovered a number of injured individuals at the scene of the landslide. Rescue teams, including 60 military personnel, local police officers, and militia members, were immediately mobilized to the site.
Those who survived the landslide have been taken to a local clinic in Ban Cai for medical treatment. However, 5 individuals remain unaccounted for, and one person is in critical condition at the site of the landslide.
In response to the emergency, the Lao Cai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Rescue Command deployed inflatable boats to assist in search and rescue operations, aiming to locate the missing individuals as quickly as possible.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities cntinue to assess the full extent of the damage.
